Cincinnati bridge between downtown, Mount Adams will be replaced

ODOT will build a $6.6 million bridge immediately adjacent to the existing system between East Court Street downtown and Van Meter Street in Mount Adams.

The state plans to work with the city to create a design plan and make aesthetic enhancements for the bridge that will include surface treatments, signage, fence types, colors and lighting.

The new bridge will use a steel truss as a base structure. The width of the bridge and its ramps will be increased to 12 feet. The new bridge also will not use chain link fencing.

Instead of steps, the new bridge will feature a winding walkway to the top, allowing it to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as making it easier for people with bicycles to use it.

The existing bridges were built in the 1960s and remain safe to use, but are deteriorating.

Construction is expected to begin in 2026.
