Uptown Rentals plans to student-housing project near the University of Cincinnati
–
Uptown Rental Properties will build thousands of new student-housing beds near the University of Cincinnati in the coming years and has long-term aims to develop property on the eastern campus, according to its president, Dan Schimberg.
Uptown Rentals will also add to its portfolio in a three-phase project along the McMillan Avenue corridor between Vine Street and Auburn Avenue. That includes 55 housing units in a planned five-story multifamily project at 47 William Howard Taft Road, where Uptown Rentals has demolished the Superior Credit Union building.
“We’re extremely bullish about the east side of campus,” Schimberg said. “We look at the east side of campus as a much more desirable area long term.”
Uptown Rentals is acting as a strategic partner of the university to help address the housing crunch amid record fall 2023 student enrollment that official figures show is even larger than previously expected.
The university is planning for 60,000 students enrolled by 2030
The university projects demand for more than 8,000 new student-housing beds on or near its Clifton campus over the next seven years. Around 2,500 beds are currently under construction or in the pipeline.
“We’re all working together to create a housing portfolio in and around the university that’s as high quality as the university itself,” he said.
