Covington receives $16.3 million for new pedestrian friendly neighborhood on riverfront

The 23 acre riverfront site in the Russell Street area, has received the funds from the RAISE grant.  RAISE stands for the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity.  The City of Covington, acting as the Master Developer, has plans for a new neighborhood that focuses on the pedestrian, the connect-ability to the “$5 billion mile” (the grouping of new developments along the riverfront), as well as easy access to amenities across the River in Cincinnati.  BB Riverboats has expressed interest in providing riverboat taxi’s between Covington and Cincinnati as they currently have in Newport.  According to the City of Covington, the site will has almost 6,000+ ft of sidewalks, 1500+ feet of off-road trails, and 2 acres of public green space.  More than 1,900 permanent job will be created by the project.
